Cyber Seek

I like to disseminate useful information whenever I run across it. Cybersecurity is a subject area that I am definitely not an SME on and often have to seek out individuals currently working in the field for guidance in helping the students I counsel. I recently learned about this website from a computer science professor at a local community college. He is retired Navy and aware of the opportunities for service members who work in this realm to stay in the field as they transition into rewarding civilian careers. He stated that this site is a resourceful tool to have at your disposal.

Cyber Seek offers academic, training, and career information for students, career seekers, and educators. The site breaks down employment data by state giving users a detailed breakdown of the job market in the location of their choice. This can help you in your job planning endeavors.

Job seekers and current cybersecurity workers can learn:
1. How in-demand  cybersecurity jobs are within various communities.
2. Areas/roles to target to begin their careers.
3. How to transition between cybersecurity roles and advance their careers.

Students can learn:
1. Where the demand for cybersecurity is and if it fits with their location.
2. Skills and credentials they need to enter the field.
3. Potential income levels.

Educators/career counselors can learn:
1. Should we offer cybersecurity training?
2. Which skills will better help students prepare for a career in the field.
3. What levels of education are required.
4. Where are the entry-level jobs.
5. Certifications required to enter the field and how to prepare for them.

The site also holds two interactive maps that an help with planning for a cybersecurity career. One map demonstrates detailed career information per state. The second map offers pathways that align with the different cybersecurity subject areas, such as networking, software engineer, and security intelligence.
